Description

I work as an animator and I recieve critiques over my work all the time. To the point where, the only "good" remark I ever recieve is "yeah, that works. Ok good."

That is very rare and few inbetween.

What I normally recieve is mistakes that I've made in the piece and changes I need to make. This, I love to recieve than "WOW GREAT!". I'd rather be told things that I did wrong than to go through the rest of my artistic career never improveing because I don't know any better.

Which brings us to an artist I dubbed "CANDY" I'm not going to tell or the real account, nor will I encourage people to find the account and post comments. If I catch you I will bann you from my account and display your horrible comment in my gallery.

Unfortunatly CANDY had other intentions, for I recieve a lot of encourageing notes from CANDY'S followers such as:

"GO TO HELL YOU SACK OF SHIT."
and
"YOU'RE JUST A TALENTESS TROLL."

Oh CANDY, My dear sweet CANDY, don't worry, I wont bother you again. ...

ever.....

*****READ ME*********
People are thinking I randomly started critiquing CANDY's art on her comment section. THAT IS NOT THE CASE.

My critiques at the top of this piece are explanations to why CANDY's art didn't make it into pony pros. The messages that CANDY received were only viewable between the Founders of Pony Bros, CANDY, and Me. So there is no potential "exposure" to the artist's "ego." I try to be aware of my own personal taste when critiquing art that is submitted to Pony Bros and will approach it with unbiased view.

What I DO look for and can clearly spot is SLOPPY art. I explained to CANDY that the way the ponies are drawn is a very simple style with LOTS of anatomy laid on into the image. This style of drawing does not allow for a lot "wiggle room" when drawing as any mistakes in the anatomy and perspective of the image will become glaringly obvious. At Pony Bros, we receive A LOT of submissions into the OC category, so art that gets admitted to that category has to be truly exceptional. A pony with drawn with mistakes in perspective, and nothing else but a plain background just doesn't make the cut. If these pieces were drawn with an exceptional background then they probably would have been admitted.

We have a lot of entries to shift though at Pony Bros don't have time to write a paragraph for each entry that is denied. So I cut out the fluff and get straight to the point. I think an explanation to why the art didn't make the cut is far better than no comments at all. Like I would rather receive a rejection letter to a job that I applied to or a text from a friend saying that they will have to cancel going to the movies than no responses at all.

Well, considering you seem to be very good at critiquing(I hope I spelled that right) I would assume you already know this. If you don't say something nice about the art a lot of people take it as an attack, especially if they don't know you.

And just because something isn't up to your standards doesn't mean it's bad. I had the same problem with someone before. I didn't know them, they were only saying bad things, and they thought I was ignorant because I said it was perfect to me. What I did not say was that it was perfect to them, but they thought I was ignorant and that I was just getting 'butthurt'.

And sometimes if you're critiquing someone who is sensitive it is much kinder to be nice to them. Well, obviously.

Now, in this you don't say-I don't believe-whether they asked for critiques or not so if I knew this I'd have something more to say about it.

Also, when you post a critique in a comment without telling them the comment is a critique they feel attacked and this is why you get the reactions you get.
If you had a nicer approach then you would get much different reactions, I assume.

By making a journal about someone saying how mean or troll like they are, it's just basically saying 'Charge!' and your friends go rant for you. If I ever make I rant journal I am clear about making sure that I don't say who it is, and that they don't go attack them. If other people did this many less problems would be going on in dA.

Sorry if this seems long I just have a lot of things to say about this kind of thing. I hope you don't take this as me being mean or one sided, because I understand both sides very well-at least I think and hope I do.
And sorry if these seems like a rant, it kinda is. I get really annoyed by stupid fights like this.
